Karen Matell works on general corporate matters, business transactions among health care providers and regulatory compliance, wage parity, fiscal intermediary and licensure issues. Karen's 20 years of healthcare law experience includes the representation of a diverse group of healthcare clients. She has provided clients with strategic advice on how to adjust their operations to keep pace with the quickly changing healthcare marketplace.
Karen has extensive experience in analyzing and redesigning corporate compliance programs to ensure robust and effective programs. Her strategic review of risk assessment, monitoring, corrective actions and remediation processes has been instrumental in identifying exposure of potential risks and gaps as well as identified areas for corrective and preventative actions. Karen has authored a code of business conduct and corporate compliance handbook to be used for education and guidance of corporate compliance officers of several multinational biotechnology companies.
Karen has also been responsible for effectuating pharmacy acquisitions nationwide and has developed a thorough knowledge of state laws pertaining to pharmacy practices, insurance billing practices and PBM regulation. She has developed a comprehensive knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, as well as a thorough understanding of the contractual relationships between pharmacies and third-party payors.
Karen has represented clients in connection with audits, network admission and credentialing, and contract terminations. She has also worked with clients on understanding contracts and provider manuals to promote optimal regulatory compliance. She has been responsible for the creation and revision of policies and procedures and training of employees for accreditation reviews.
Karen received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a finance concentration from the State University of New York in Albany, where she graduated magna cum laude. Karen received her law degree from Hofstra University School of Law, where she graduated with distinction.
